What is Specialist Accreditation?

Andersons Solicitors Family Law Team is a team lead a partner who is a Family Law Accredited Specialist, an accreditation which requires passing a gruelling program.
There are only 18 accredited specialists in Family Law practicing as solicitors in South Australia and so we consider ourselves very fortunate to have one of them.
Whilst any lawyer can practice in Family Law, it is only through the Specialist Accreditation program that practitioners are tested and peer reviewed to ensure that they operate at the highest levels of Family Law practice.
An Accredited Specialist is a lawyer recognised as having expertise in a particular area of law.
The Law Society of South Australia (LSSA) Accredited Specialists:
- have at least five years full-time practice experience and at least three years practice experience in their area of specialisation;
- maintain a high degree of professional development in their area of specialisation, which involves the continual development of their skills;
- pass a comprehensive assessment process testing technical knowledge, writing and practical advocacy skills; and
- apply for re-accreditation every three years, ensuring the highest standards are maintained.
In our case, this meant undertaking the assessment in Victoria through the Law Society of Victoria (as it was not available in South Australia).
Selina and I ensure that the Family Law team is taught the current best practice principles so that our clients can expect the highest level of advice and professionalism at Andersons regardless of what office they attend or which lawyer they meet with.
We are committed to the development of our junior and senior Family Lawyers within our team so watch this space as we prepare our next generation to undertake the Accredited Specialisation process.
