Becker Helicopters announces new operating base in Whyalla

Whyalla is flying high today after Becker Helicopters announced plans to set up an operating base in the South Australian region.

Andersons Solicitors Managing Partner, Garry Palasis acts for Becker Helicopters and was significantly involved during their negotiations with the South Australian State Government.

The new operating base, which will be completed in the next three to five years, is a major boost to the now re-emerging city.

Set to offer long term employment opportunities to South Australia, the base will introduce a new industry to the region, while creating 80 new jobs, flow on work and broader economic benefits.

Operating since 1995, Becker Helicopters is the only flight training company in the Southern Hemisphere to deliver a military based syllabus.

Becker Helicopters founder Mike Becker said the company – which currently trains over 120 military students per year – had been looking interstate and overseas for a new base.

Hoping to remain in Australia, Mike, and wife and CEO, Capt. Jan Becker chose South Australia because of the state’s innovative and increasing defence sector.

With over 20 years’ experience, and 35 flight instructors, the fully approved Pilot Academy completes approximately 10,000 to 15,000 flight training hours per year.

The Academy also holds an exemplary safety record and a fleet of 18 training helicopters and 4 Flight Simulation Training devices.

Andersons welcomes Becker Helicopters to South Australia and looks forward to a continuing and long term relationship.
